Description
The can you’re holding in your hands is not just a tribute to Julione. It is also a tribute to all children in the world with cancer. This is why the proceeds that Montana Colors earns from this Limited Edition will go entirely to improve the conditions of young people suffering from cancer, in collaboration with the Andalusian association ANDEX. We have chosen this entity for regional ties they hold to little Julione’s closest environment. We hope to honor his memory through this humble gesture.
Limited Edition in collaboration with ANDEX’s Planta Zero project.
Asociación de Padres de Niños con Cáncer de Andalucía (The Association of Parents of Children with Cancer of Andalusia)
La Asociación de Padres de Niños con Cáncer de Andalucía (The Association of Parents of Children with Cancer of Andalusia), ANDEX, was founded in 1985 by a group of parents affected by this severe illness in one of their children.
Since its inception, it has been characterized by tireless efforts to improve the living conditions of children with cancer and their families, in all areas of their lives. As they developed the the team of volunteers and increased the social, psychological and leisurely benefits available to these families, the foundation also concerned themselves with the training of professionals in oncology and hematology, all of which resulted in improved prospects of healing of these children.
The “PLANTA ZERO” project is born from the demand for teenagers with cancer and their familie, to have a space suited to their needs. The main objective that is hoped to be achieved with the construction of the Adolescent Oncology-Hematology Unit is to increase patient survival.
This Unit, which will be located on the ground floor of the Virgen del Rocío Children’s Hospital, will be a pioneer project in Andalusia, starting from Zero ...That’s how this name was chosen, because it’s also a nod to Gen-Z: those who were born between 1995 and 2015, and who are known for for communicating with images, creating content, and for being realistic. This is why we wanted to create a space where they can act their age, and dive into their motivations and interests.
Currently, teenagers and young adults with cancer are treated interchangeably both in the adult oncology unit and in the pediatric unit of the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville. In recent years, almost a hundred teenagers aged 14 to 18 have been attended to, from Andalusia, Extremadura and Morocco.
Due to a lack of a specific space for these ages, the type of treatment, access to social resources, specialized psycho-oncologists and other services, all depend exclusively on the Oncology Unit in which they are treated. According to studies on cancer survival, it has been noted that "while in the last fifty years the survival in childhood and adult cancer has increased, the survival of adolescents and young people has remained stagnant."
The origins of this disadvantage is likely due to multiple factors: the absence of multidisciplinary groups specialized in the management of cancer in young adults, the lack of clinical trials, and low research activity specifically aimed at improving the survival of adolescents.
Because of all the aforementioned, it could be said that this group of patients is not receiving the treatment that best suits their disease, environment, or situation. Unlike countries like France, Germany, or England, only Madrid has specific units and comprehensive protocols for adolescents in all of Spain.
For this reason, ANDEX has made it their goal to build the Onco-Hematology Unit for Adolescents, feeling the obligation to place Andalusia at par with the best centers in Europe.
There are countless ways to collaborate, adapted to your capabilities.
