Return "MULLERES E CULTURA URBANA" (WOMEN AND URBAN CULTURE). A day to discuss the situation in the context of feminism and GaliciaThe event will be held on September 12, in Santiago de Compostela, within the framework of the Delas Fest, offering analytical discussions alongside a meetup for improvised spraypainting.
This upcoming 12th of September, the “Cidade da Cultura de Galicia” will host "Mulleres e Cultura Urbana" (Women and Urban Culture), an event promoted by 7H Cultural Collective with the aim of promoting collective creativity, the exchange of experiences, and a critical spirit regarding gender inequalities in the arts sector. Encompassed in the Fondo de Proxectos Culturais Xacobeo 2021, and as part of the programming of the 2nd edition of Delas Fest — a feminist urban and contextual art festiva — the event will have sessions of analysis and debate as well as a creative meetup for improvisation with spray paint, with the focus on vindicating the wealth of urban culture in Galicia and carried out by women.
The event’s activities will take place throughout the day and will start off with a morning session that is both a theoretical and deliberative orientation through two seminars on artistic work in the public space, starring Lina Castellanos, a gender specialist and creator from Colombia and a university teacher from Vigo, Lorena Arévalo. Following that, the curator of the Delas Fest, Clara R. Cordeiro, will be in charge of moderating a round table in which Galician artists Eva Comesaña, Festa, IRA, Iria Prol and Marcia Vázquez will examine the state of urban culture in Galicia from their experiences across different disciplines.
In the afternoon the conference takes on a laid-back attitude, with the celebration of the Delas Jam improv painting meetup. Carola Bagnato (Mar de Plata), Festa (Compostela), IRA (Compostela), Killa.eK (Quito), Porte (Compostela), Sax (Vigo), Shen Oner (Huesca) and Sphiza (Puerto) are the selected artists who will participate in the activity, thought up especially to create a safe and playful space for dialogue and spray paint experimentation.
The artists, who are all specialists in graffiti, were the winners of the 8 creativity prizes that were aimed to support their involvement in the event. This initiative was launched by 7H Cultural, with the support of the Xunta de Galicia and the collaboration of the Cidade da Cultura, with Montana Colors providing the necessary material for the works. The pieces will be painted on cellophane paper surfaces, placed between the trees of the Xardín do Teatro do Gaiás, where a space will also be set up so that women, girls and boys who want to experiment can also do so for free.
As the day winds down, the Vigo singer and songwriter High Paw will play a concert with her own unique blend of soul, reggae, roots, raggamuffin and feminist lyrics.
