SPRAY PAINT COLORS AND CHROMES 

Montana Colors has a wide range of spray paint products. The purpose of this information sheet is to explain the differences between each different line so you can decide which one best suits your needs in any particular project. We’ll also break down the main differences between metallic spray paint and chrome spray paint. 

MONTANA COLORS PAINT RANGES

MTN paint comes in the following lines:

- MTN 94, HARDCORE, MEGA, MAXIMO, ALIEN: all these products are alkyd paints.
- MTN PRO COLOR PAINT: an acrylic product.
- WATER BASED: a water-based polyurethane product.

MTN 94, HARDCORE, MEGA, MAXIMO, ALIEN

These are fast drying paints which can be recoated after 15 minutes, while the total drying time is 24 hours.

Our alkyd spray paints can be varnished within a specific period of time: within two hours of the last coat or after four or five days.

Resistant to moisture.

MTN PRO COLOR PAINT, MTN PRO METALLIC PAINT

These spray paints are fast drying with a touch drying time of only 10 minutes. They become totally dry after 6-12 hours. Other characteristics of our colour spray paints are:

- They have a hard finish.
- They do not yellow.
- Can be varnished 10 minutes after painting the last coat.

WATER BASED

They are quick drying paints that can be repainted after 30 minutes, while the total drying time is 72 hours. Our water-based paint has great adherance to most surfaces, although it does not adhere to plastic or aluminum surfaces.

- It is a type of spray paint compatible with POREX.
- For outside and inside use.
- Water soluble before drying.
- Can be varnished 30 minutes after the last coat.
- Does not have a strong smell.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CHROME AND METALLIC PAINT

These two paints have similar finishes but behave differently with different characteristics, as you can see below:

METALLIC SPRAY PAINT:

This is a paint with a high content of pearl and/or metallic pigments that give it a metallic appearance. It has excellent adhesion and coverage on most surfaces. Suitable for use both indoors and outdoors and can be varnished if necessary. 

CHROME EFFECT SPRAY PAINT:

This is a paint that mimics metals with a chrome finish. This is achieved by with a leafing effect. Leafing pigments work by floating in the paint film and are oriented horizontally to its surface. Thanks to this formula, they create the impression of a chromed surface with high reflection.

This nature of the paint means that it is not suitable for outdoor use or in circumstances where the painted object will be touched, since the effect will disappear. For the same reason, it cannot be varnished. If you do so, it will lose its chrome effect and you will end up with a matt metallic paint finish. Therefore, this paint is to be used indoors exclusively and for decorative use only.
