Return "An Acknowledgment Is Always Exciting." Interview with Eva Moro, Design CoordinatorIt is extremely easy to forget that design is present in everything human beings have created. Thus, all companies require specially qualified professionals to meet this need. At Montana Colors, this task is of utmost importance, as our products are manufactured for aesthetic purposes. Eva Moro has been coordinating the Design Department for two years, with another ten years of overall experience within the company. Today she tells us some insightful things about the role designers play at Montana Colors, as well as some details about her work experience.
For someone who has never thought about it ... Where is design important in a company like Montana Colors?
In all areas; the Design Department supports all departments at Montana. For us, it is important to apply design to all our communications. The first thing we think of when talking about design is that we can find it in the products we manufacture, but at Montana we actually apply design to both our external and internal services. The final product is important to us, but also the letters our customers receive, the clothes our employees wear, the signage at our facilities, etc.
What is your role as a design coordinator?
My role as a coordinator is to organize all the requests that are recorded at the Design Department and collect the necessary information so that all the information and material are available for designers to start working.
What tasks do you perform as a designer in addition to your organizational responsibilities?
My design tasks are highly varied, but I am mostly in charge of editorial (catalogs, brochures, leaflets, etc.) and point-of-sale design in department stores: from the headers (shop windows within department stores) to all the material that may be needed, such as specific brochures for specific campaigns, posters, displays, etc. I also take care of the design of stands for fairs and all the internal graphic material that MTN may need.
The Design Department at Montana Colors is part of marketing … What is the atmosphere like in the marketing office with so many different job profiles and characters?
In general, there is a very calm working environment and good vibes. In the Marketing Department, there are many different profiles, i.e. we are a team of designers, communicators, and content managers led by Miriam, who has a more strategic position. We also work alongside the Product Manager, which is very positive. Collaborative work is important to find the best solution for all our projects.
As with marketing projects, Montana Colors chooses not to outsource design work. What are the advantages of this according to you?
I think it is very important and has many advantages, especially in terms of diligence.
Montana Colors is a company that is highly committed to design. It is a brand with character and an innovative spirit, which differs from the brands that existed at the time when it was established. I think Montana broke established norms and did things in a different way. Having a design team from the onset is one of them. This helped boost its identity and get us to where we are today.
How and how long ago did you join our company?
I joined Montana 10 years ago this year. It was in April 2013, as an intern at the Design Department, and this is my second year as a coordinator.
What changes have you seen in the brand in terms of design?
Montana has a highly defined design, and it actually has not changed in 10 years, as it is so well defined that it has hardly needed any changes.
What do you like most about working at Montana Colors?
What I like most about working at Montana is that I have always felt valued, and the team makes for a very good atmosphere.
Have you had any particularly difficult moments in your career?
Returning to work after becoming a mother. The lack of sleep and permanent fatigue, doing everything you can and having the feeling that you are not getting everything done and that you are failing. Over time and from de different perspective, you see that it was just a feeling, because the work went well, but the moment was very hard.
Any particularly satisfying moment?
When Miriam asked me to coordinate the design team, I was very excited. If someone trusts you for a position which involves greater responsibility, it means that you are doing things well, and acknowledgement is always exciting.
How about the experience of having an intern in the department?
I think it is one of the positive things about Montana, as providing opportunities and helping people who are just starting out in the working world is important. If we could give them the time they deserve, we would have more of them.
How do you see the role women play at a Montana Colors company?
It is very positive; working at a company committed to gender equality is highly rewarding.
