International Mural Festival Hola Utopia! 2022 Starts Today!

Hola Utopia! is the name of the annual urban art festival that takes place in Hannover, Germany. Under the slogan “Painting the Future”, the international artists are invited to produce large format pieces in the home city of MTN Germany, informed by workshops involving local residents who consider what a utopian city might look like.

As we announced a few weeks ago, the artists in charge of adding to Hannover’s impressive collection of large-scale artworks are Nasca, who also illustrated and designed the poster for this year’s event; Lily Brick and Galletamaria who both live and work in Catalunya; Bier En Brood, who makes the short trip from Rotterdam; Rookie The Weird, back again after his appearance in the 2021 edition; and the Ukranian twins Feros One and Dilk One.

Events to Complete the Week

A special program of events has been added to the murals which will begin to take shape from today. On Wednesday 8^th September at 9pm, a free screening of Street Heroines is scheduled to take place at the Indiego Glocksee cultural center. The documentary, directed by Alexandra Henry, takes a deep dive into the contributions of women to the worldwide street art scene. The screening will be followed by a party at the same venue featuring Hola Utopia! DJs.

The refurbished warehouse complex of Hainhoelzerhoefe is another essential stop on the route laid out by Hola Utopia! 2022. No less than two exhibitions will open on Thursday 9^th September at 7pm, one featuring a selection of original works, prints and collectables by Hola Utopia! artists past and present. The other show is a solo exhibition by German photographer Sebastian Denz.
