Return Ibiza: A new destination for urban artIbiza is always a good idea. This is the consensus of countless artists who’ve discovered this small and bright corner of the Mediterranean: the ideal place to develop their creativity.
Ibiza has welcomed some of the most seminal painters and cartoonists of the 20th century. From landscapers like Antoni Marí Ribas "Portmany", Vicent Calbet and Narcís Puget to expressionists like Frank El Punto and Erwin Broner. Informalists such as Erwin Bechtold, founder of the Ibiza 59 Group. Or artists from the pop art and the underground movements from the end of the last century like Javier Mariscal, Rom Ero, Erró and Zush/Evru, who have also left their mark on the island.
Today, street art and graffiti also find a prominent place on the little white island. An immaculate canvas to spread color, talent and creativity, in a circuit made up of festivals, fairs, centers and specialized art galleries as well as forming part of its legendary nightlife; added to the streets and murals scattered throughout the island's geography decorated by renowned artists.
Adda Gallery is the space in Ibiza directed by Anna Dimitrova, who is also the director of Montana Gallery Barcelona. This summer the gallery hosts "Passion", an exhibition featuring work by the Brazilian Fefe Talavera. The exhibition is complemented by the mural interventions by Nano4814, 3ttman and Grems, protected from the intense Balearic sun thanks to the new protective water-based varnish from Montana Colors.
This year, Okuda returned with his Kaos Garden, an authentic explosion of color at the El Row club that takes place at the prestigious Ushuaia nightclub.
The Medusa Festival curated by Hosh this year presents murals on the walls of schools and around the island.
The muralist Aída Miró opened an exhibition dedicated to “Payesas & Geishas”, a series of portraits made over the last four years between New York and Ibiza.
Dino Cortiana and his critical and incisive graffiti pop art filled the walls of the Club Diario de Ibiza with the exhibition "Free Thought". Boke's hyperactivity, Jerom's talent, the omnipresent Rubio and the eternal and well-known Festival Club hall of fame attest to the good health of graffiti and urban art.
Bloop Festival deserves a special mention, whose twelfth edition is entitled “Culmination” featuring the participation of artists such as Spaik, INO and Helder Cavalcante. Also worth mentioning is the baptism of the new Can Art International Contemporary Art Fair, from the same team who run the Madrid-based Urvanity.
To conclude, we’d also like to highlight the good work of the Nave Salinas Foundation. Following the exhibitions of artists such as Rafa Macarrón, Kenny Scharf, Keith Haring and Kaws, the pictorial work of a woman will be exhibited for the first time. Bulgarian Eva Beresin's work is being shown with her solo show, “A daily exercise of deadly sins and other nonsense”.
Ibiza, a small green and salty droplet in the middle of the Mediterranean, a magnetic island full of art, light and creativity!
