Return Hola Utopia 2022: “Painting the Future”Hola Utopia, the annual flagship graffiti and street art festival organized by Montana Colors in Hannover, Germany, has confirmed its 2022 dates along with the first artists and the poster to promote this year’s event, which is accompanied by the new slogan: “Painting the Future.”
From September 5th to 11th, a several of Europe’s top aerosol artists will add to the selection of murals in the city, with a poster produced by versatile German/Peruvian NASCA ONE. Best known for his lush, powerful, and surrealistic scenes of nature, he has been chosen to illustrate the poster and produce another mural at the festival.
His striking design produced exclusively for Hola Utopia 2022 is a reference to the Year of the Tiger, with an array of references worked into the background for the true street art fanatics. The design is also set to adorn an MTN Limited Edition, produced for the first time in an NFT format, reinforcing the slogan of this year’s event.
LILY BRIK and GALLETA MARIA are the two artists invited who continue to reinforce the links between Hannover and Catalonia, the home of Montana Colors. Their feminist ideals, support of social causes and advanced aerosol technique make them a perfect fit for Hola Utopia 2022.
ROOKIE THE WEIRD is another artist who will make another appearance at Hola Utopia, following his two murals produced in 2021 along with the Limited Edition can and poster.
Representing a bold and abstract approach to muralism, BIER EN BROOD will travel from Rotterdam to add to the impressive gallery of large-scale works produced since 2020.
The final artists invited to the event are two brothers from Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine named DILK & FEROS. We are delighted to be able to offer these artists the chance to travel and paint, underlining a message of solidarity from Hola Utopia with the artistic scene of Ukraine.
This year’s program also includes other dimensions made difficult with pandemic restrictions. A screening of Street Heroines will take place at the Indiego Glocksee cultural center on Wednesday 7th September followed by a party featuring Hola Utopia selectors.
The week’s events are completed with an exhibition on at the Hainhölzer Höfe warehouse space featuring original work and prints from artists who have participated in the festival since its inauguration. The opening will take place on Thursday 8thSeptember.
Founded in 2019 by Artie Ilsemann from MTN Germany and graffiti artist Jascha Mueller, Hola Utopia is an event that aims to promote social justice and environmental concerns through large-scale artwork, informed by participative workshops in the Northern German city.
Hola Utopia is produced with the support of Gundlach Bau und Immobilien GmbH & Co. KG, hanova WOHNEN GmbH, Fondsoziokultur Soziokultur Niedersachsen and Kulturbüro Hannover.
