Return DELAS FEST CELEBRATES ITS FOURTH EDITION OF FEMINIST MURALS IN GALICIAThe fourth edition of Delas Fest, a feminist festival of urban and contextual art, marked a new stage in the history of the project. Created in 2019 with the aim of contributing to the construction of collective spaces for deliberation and experimentation with a gender perspective and combating the inequalities present in the sector.
The artists in charge of producing the large-format works were Mariana Santos, who painted the façade of a residential building in San Lázaro (Santiago); Ceciro, who painted an old school in Firmistáns (Ames); Udatxo, who worked at the Casa Común de Francos (Teo), and Nana, creator of a piece at the Municipal Pool of Brión.
Meanwhile, Tamara Baz and Fitz Licuado were in charge of teaching the collective creation workshops, together with the 7H team. In addition, this year the festival also featured a screening of the documentary Street Heroines, which also provided a space for collective reflection on the film.
Consolidated as one of the top events on the Galician urban art circuit, the 2022 festival presented a new programming format which combined the best aspects of the inaugural event, which took place over a single week, and the 2020 and 2021 editions, carried out over a month.
The activities were distributed over seven days in each of the municipalities involved, which allowed the creators to meet and spend time together, as well as simplifying logistics and making better use of resources.
In addition, the festival expanded the fields of its creative dimension, incorporating the creation of the graphic line and audiovisual documentation as part of the curatorial selection. The illustrator and designer Maru Astray, in charge of making the visual identity of Delas Fest 22, and the filmmaker Adriana Páramo inaugurated the presence of invited artists in these fields, in what is intended to be a new line of promotion and visibility of feminist creators within the general proposal of the project.
At the same time, the theoretical and methodological approach of the festival remained unchanged, with equality, diversity, cooperation and the commitment to collective creation dynamics at the central axis of all activities.
Likewise, the work in direct collaboration with the mobilized social agents, with the public administrations and with the business fabric from outside and within the borders of the country, once again provided financial and material support to the project, the financing of the Deputation of A Coruña and the municipalities of Santiago, Ames, Teo and Brión; the sponsorships of Montana Colors, Ibersa - El Mundo del Pintor, Gadis and ALRO Maquinaria, as well as the collaboration of Daveiga - Galletas Mariñeiras and Cafés Candelas.
